Georgios Piliouras

I am a senior staff research scientist at Google DeepMind (GDM). Before joining GDM, I was an Associate Professor in the Engineering Systems and Design Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), where I still hold a role as an adjunct faculty.

My main research interests lie in the areas of algorithmic game theory, multi-agent learning, AI Safety, dynamical systems and blockchain. I am broadly interested in studying both the power and capabilties as well as the limitations and risks of systems that arise from the interaction of numerous adapting, intelligent agents.

I believe it is important to build this understanding on solid foundations based on combinations of well-developed ideas from diverse fields such as game theory, economics, optimization theory, reinforcement learning, computational complexity, control theory and dynamical systems (e.g., chaos theory). At the same time, it is critical to ground our understanding on the specifics of real-world applications. I have been fortunate to work on a diverse set of real-world markets and applications alongside numerous esteemed collaborators, including:

I received my PhD in Computer Science from Cornell University. Past affiliations include UC Berkeley, California Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology and the Ethereum Foundation. I have been awarded a Singapore NRF Fellowship and a Simons Fellowship.
